Fishing Since I Was Knee-High to a Grasshopper

I'm Larry Thomas, and I've been fishing since I was knee-high to a grasshopper. I fished plenty of lakes around here, but the first time I dropped a line in Lake Tawakoni back in 2001, I was hooked. I moved to East Tawakoni and spent every day I could learning this lake and how its catfish move.

That was over 20 years ago, and Lake Tawakoni is still the only water I guide on. My boat even landed a lake record channel catfish at 29.08 pounds. When you book, you're booking with me directly, and I'll put you right where the fish are. This is a laid-back boat. Bring your buddies, your cooler and whatever helps you relax. The only rule is keep it safe.

Larry is a fantastic guide! Very friendly and professional. My family and I have been out with him several times. He never fails to lead us to getting our limit of catfish! He throws out the line, takes it off the hook and cleans it when we go in - giving us the fight and thrill of reeling in the fish and taking home tons of fillets. Highly recommend!!!

Wow what a great captain! We caught a ton of channel catfish! Exactly what Larry promised. My best friend isn't very experienced and with the wind and waves the bites were a little harder to feel, but captain took his time with her! In no time she was feeling them in! Great attitude great captain, amazing time. We have already booked him for March and the big blues... can't wait. Thank you

FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Call me at (940) 229-0288 for current rates. Let me know how many are coming and what you want to catch, and I'll set you up.

Yes, this is a BYOB boat. Bring your cooler and whatever helps you relax on the water. The only rule is keep it safe. If something turns into a safety issue, the trip ends there.

Sunscreen, a rain jacket if the weather looks iffy, a cooler with your drinks and snacks, sunglasses, a camera and your fishing license. Bring your own music too, we can play it on the boat.

Every season has something. Winter (Dec to Feb) is trophy time for big blues up to 80 lb. Spring (Mar to May) is the best for eater blues. Summer (Jun to Oct) is fast channel cat action. In the fall I fish whatever's biting best.

Yes. From a couple of buddies to a family reunion, give me a call at (940) 229-0288 and I'll set you up.

Absolutely. First-timers to experienced anglers, everybody's welcome. I have kids' life jackets on board, but if you have one that fits your child snug, bring it.

Yes. I'll have your catch cleaned so you can take it home ready to cook.

If there's weather that makes it unsafe to be on the water, I'll call you a couple of days ahead and we'll reschedule.

Serving Quinlan

Quinlan is a Hunt County town on the west side of Lake Tawakoni, where State Highway 34 and State Highway 276 pass through. Highway 276 heads east from town toward West Tawakoni and the lake shore, so Quinlan sits between the open farm country of Hunt County and the water. Plenty of families here live within reach of the lake but don't keep a boat ready to go, or don't know where the catfish are holding from one month to the next. Summers are long and hot in this part of North Texas, and winters bring cold fronts and hard north winds, both of which shape when and where catfish feed on a big, open reservoir.

Why Quinlan customers need this work

For Quinlan families, a guided trip takes the guesswork out of a big lake. Lake Tawakoni covers a lot of water, and catfish move with the seasons, the wind and the water temperature. A guide who has fished it for over 20 years knows where to set up, so your group spends the day reeling instead of searching. Summer channel cat trips are a good fit for kids and first-timers, with steady bites and a start at daylight. Spring blue trips are for people who want plenty of eater-size fish for the freezer.
