Fishing Since I Was Knee-High to a Grasshopper

I'm Larry Thomas, and I've been fishing since I was knee-high to a grasshopper. I fished plenty of lakes around here, but the first time I dropped a line in Lake Tawakoni back in 2001, I was hooked. I moved to East Tawakoni and spent every day I could learning this lake and how its catfish move.

That was over 20 years ago, and Lake Tawakoni is still the only water I guide on. My boat even landed a lake record channel catfish at 29.08 pounds. When you book, you're booking with me directly, and I'll put you right where the fish are. This is a laid-back boat. Bring your buddies, your cooler and whatever helps you relax. The only rule is keep it safe.

Larry is a fantastic guide! Very friendly and professional. My family and I have been out with him several times. He never fails to lead us to getting our limit of catfish! He throws out the line, takes it off the hook and cleans it when we go in - giving us the fight and thrill of reeling in the fish and taking home tons of fillets. Highly recommend!!!

Wow what a great captain! We caught a ton of channel catfish! Exactly what Larry promised. My best friend isn't very experienced and with the wind and waves the bites were a little harder to feel, but captain took his time with her! In no time she was feeling them in! Great attitude great captain, amazing time. We have already booked him for March and the big blues... can't wait. Thank you

Call me at (940) 229-0288 for current rates. Let me know how many are coming and what you want to catch, and I'll set you up.

Yes, this is a BYOB boat. Bring your cooler and whatever helps you relax on the water. The only rule is keep it safe. If something turns into a safety issue, the trip ends there.

Sunscreen, a rain jacket if the weather looks iffy, a cooler with your drinks and snacks, sunglasses, a camera and your fishing license. Bring your own music too, we can play it on the boat.

Every season has something. Winter (Dec to Feb) is trophy time for big blues up to 80 lb. Spring (Mar to May) is the best for eater blues. Summer (Jun to Oct) is fast channel cat action. In the fall I fish whatever's biting best.

Yes. From a couple of buddies to a family reunion, give me a call at (940) 229-0288 and I'll set you up.

Absolutely. First-timers to experienced anglers, everybody's welcome. I have kids' life jackets on board, but if you have one that fits your child snug, bring it.

Serving West Tawakoni

West Tawakoni sits on the west shore of Lake Tawakoni in Hunt County, with State Highway 276 running through town. The lake is a large reservoir on the Sabine River, held back by Iron Bridge Dam, and it reaches into Hunt, Rains and Van Zandt counties. That much open water means wind matters: a north wind in winter can stack up chop quickly, and summer afternoons get hot with little shade on the water. Much of the town faces the lake, with marinas and boat ramps along the shoreline. For anglers, it means you can be on the water at first light without a long drive before the trip, and after a summer morning trip you can head home with cleaned fish before lunch.

Why West Tawakoni customers need this work

Catfish are why most people come to Lake Tawakoni, and the seasons here change what you are fishing for. Winter is trophy time for big blue catfish, from 20 up to 80 pounds. Spring brings steady action on eater-size blues in the 5 to 10 pound range. Summer is about channel catfish, with trips that start at daylight to beat the heat. In the fall, I fish whatever is biting. Living on the lake's west shore, I watch these changes through the year, and that is what decides where we set up on any given trip.
